Just watched President Obama’s speech and I can go to bed happy tonight!
Ken and I spent the evening at the Kilkenney Irish Pub at a Democrats Abroad get together watching the results of the election come in. It was so much more exciting to watch with such a great group of people than to just sit at home watching on the sofa. There were cheers and applause as each new state was called for the President or when a Democratic candidate was called the winner in nationally publicized contests.
Elizabeth Warren and Clare McCaskill both got loud ovations. McCaskill of course beat Todd Akin of “legitimate rape” and the “female body has ways of shutting that whole thing down” fame. There was also a lot of cheering for Colorado and Washington voting to legalize marijuana and for Maine legalizing gay marriage. In a lot of ways it was a good night for Democrats!
The loudest celebrating came though when Ohio was called for President Obama and his electoral vote count went over 270. And as we continued to watch and wait for the candidates to give their speeches, things just kept going in favor of the President with the popular vote turning blue, as well. I couldn’t ask for a better night!
